To give you a little taste of what is available, here is a selection of our favourites:
- Turkish Baths - Be sure to go early in your holiday so you don't scrub off your tan; it leaves your skin feeling wonderfully soft and is supposed to prepare your skin for a good tan.
- Barbers - A very enjoyable experience that men and boys will never forget. Have a shave with a cut-throat razor and, if you want have your ear and nose hairs trimmed off - by burning! Our favourite barber is also a popular local folk singer in his spare time and may sing for you - if you ask nicely!
- Jeep safari - An amazing and unforgettable experience with rock tombs, mountains, rivers, lakes, wild life, sea, fantastic views and lunch all in one day.
- Water sports - For sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, water skiing, pedalos, banana boat and Big Mabel at the Sarıgerme Watersports centre and other places along the beach.
- Scuba Diving - from beginner to expert at Sarıgerme Diving Centre.
- Iztuzu Beach - This is a long beach where the Caretta Caretta turtles lay their eggs and is thus a protected area. There is now a Turtle Sanctuary, caring for turtles injured by boats and fishing lines. You can get to the Turtle Sanctuary end of the beach by road, or to the other end via a relaxing 40 minute river boat trip from Dalyan.
- Sarsala Beach - A secluded cove with breath-taking views from the hill down to the beach. In season there is a restaurant and boat trips from the beach. Well worth the 30 minute drive from Dalaman.
- History - Kaunos, a settlement dating back to 3000BC with amphitheatre, agora, temples and Lycian Rock tombs overlooking Dalyan.
- White Water Rafting on the Dalaman River
- Thermal Spring Mud Baths & Health Spa
- Boat trips - If you only do one boat trip, it has to be the 12 Islands from Göcek!
- Mountain biking, sea fishing, horse riding, quad biking.
- Eating Turkish food!
- Shopping, local markets - practice your bartering skills! Carpets, jewellery, leather...
Market days are as follows: -
- Ortaca - Fridays, biggest market in the area.
- Dalaman - Thursdays
- Göcek - Sundays
- Sarıgerme - Sundays, mainly tourist goods, not much food
- Dalyan - Saturdays
- Fethiye - Tuesdays
We hope this gives you a few ideas of what's on offer.
